- A guaranty for the end user. More and more specifications require certification of competence of personnel operating in design and implementation of cathodic protection systems as well as for their inspection and maintenance.
- An official recognition of the competence of cathodic protection specialists and experts.
.Four competence levels of certification are defined :

- Level
1 : Current measurements in cathodic protection
- Level
2 : Study, design, implementation of cathodic protection systems and assessment of their effectiveness

3 : Expertise in the field of cathodic protection
.These competence levels may be applied to four application sectors of cathodic protection:
- Application Sector “Land” (cathodic protection of buried structures)
- Application Sector “Seawater” (cathodic protection of submerged structures)
- Application Sector “Internal surfaces” (cathodic protection of internal surfaces)
- Application Sector “Reinforced Concrete” (cathodic protection of rebars)
.Presently, the following combinations between competence levels and application sectors are operational:

- Level
1 et 2 : Application Sector “Land” ” and “Seawater”
- Level
3 : All application sectors
