| .The progress in AFNOR Compétence Certification in Cathodic Protection for the Seawater application sector
- The establishment of Certification (training and examination) using English language for competence Levels 1 and 2 is progressing but the first sessions are delayed to 2011. The dates of these sessions will be determined soon but any interested candidate may contact from now the CFPC secretary.
It is reminded that Certification in English for competence Level 3 in the 4 application sectors is presently operational.
- Answering to the request of the specialized companies (SNETI), a new Competence Level has been launched: it is named « 1S Seawater » and adapted to professional divers.
The purpose is to propose training and certification for knowledge of Level 1 simplified and adapted to this kind of work. Training and Examination are integrated and last one week.
The first session has been organised with success from 3 to 7 May 2010.
See below the dates of the next sessions.
Before implementing the new Web site of CFPC presently prepared, the registration for the session of “Level 1S Seawater” may be by direct contact with the secretary of CFPC.
The dates of all the sessions decided by the Seawater application sector today are given at the bottom of this page. A new session Level 1 in French has been decided for 21 – 22 October 2010.

.The certification in Cathodic Protection
It is operated by the CFPC as a delegated body of AFNOR Compétence. It is based on the “Statutes” of CEFRACOR, the “Internal Rules” and “Quality Manual” of CFPC and complies with the two functional standards:
- EN ISO CEI 17024 : Conformity assessment – General requirements for bodies operating certification of persons
- EN 15 257 : Competence levels and certification of cathodic protection personnel
.Why certification?
- It gives a guaranty for the end user. More and more specifications require certification of competence of personnel operating in design and implementation of cathodic protection systems as well as for their inspection and maintenance.
- It offers an official recognition of the competence of cathodic protection specialists and experts.
.Four competence levels of certification are defined :
- Level
1S : Simple routine measurements in cathodic protection
- Level
1 : Current measurements in cathodic protection
- Level
2 : Study, design, implementation of cathodic protection systems and assessment of their effectiveness
- Level
3 : Expertise in the field of cathodic protection
.These various competence levels may be applied to four application sectors of cathodic protection:
- Application Sector “Land” (cathodic protection of buried structures)
- Application Sector “Seawater” (cathodic protection of submerged structures)
- Application Sector “Internal surfaces” (cathodic protection of internal surfaces)
- Application Sector “Reinforced Concrete” (cathodic protection of rebars)
.Presently, the following combinations between competence levels and application sectors are operational:
- Level
1S : Application Sector “Seawater” (in French)
- Levels
1 and 2 : Application Sectors “Land” ” and “Seawater” (in French and English for Seawater)
- Level
3 : All application sectors (in French and English)
